Issues loading owl files

ozairbajwa
Hi,
I am new to Protege. I have downloaded the latest desktop version of
Protege. I have two .owl files that are I am trying to import. One of the
them is a regular .owl file while the other one is SNOMED.owl file.
I was told that I need to open the first file only and it will automatically
import the SNOMED file based on the settings. However i am not seeing the
SNOMED file. There is an xml file generated in the same folder. Is there
anything specific i need to look for.

I will really appreciate your help.

Thanks

Hi,

The first (regular) .owl file needs to have an import statement that specifies that SNOMED.owl file should be imported. Absence such import statement, loading the “regular” owl file won’t import SNOMED.owl automatically. You can check whether the “regular” owl file has the import statement by looking at the “ontology imports” subtab in the “Active ontology” view of Protege. If you don’t see the right import, you must add it by using the “Direct Imports +” button. See the attached screen dump for an example of the imports in another ontology:

With best regards,
Samson

Re: Issues loading owl files

Thanks a lot.
I checked the first .owl file. It does have an import section, but the name
of the import file was the same as the first file. Under the imported
Ontology in the view, it was showing the same file.
I was able to add it manually from the Direct Import button.

Since both the files are linked, SNOMED file builds and expands on the first
file, can I get some help on how to understand the relationship, mapping the
two files together. If you know any link/tutorial that would be helpful as
well.

Appreciate any help

Thanks
