Protege 5.0 beta build 17 is now available

Tania Tudorache
We are pleased to announce a new build of Protege 5.0.0 beta (build 17).

The biggest change with respect to the previous build is that the JRE is
now bundled with the archive, so users do not need have Java installed
on their machines to run Protege. We also have a platform-independent
archive that does not include the JRE.

The release can be downloaded from the Protege Website:
http://protege.stanford.edu/products.php#desktop-protege

The installation instructions are available at:
http://protegewiki.stanford.edu/wiki/Install_Protege5

The release notes are available on github:
https://github.com/protegeproject/protege/releases/latest

Best regards,
The Protege team

Release notes:

--- Summary ---

This release provides the option to download Protégé with a Java Runtime
Environment. Users should pick the release that is specific for their
platform. Updated Protege installation instructions at:
http://protegewiki.stanford.edu/wiki/Install_Protege5

--- New functionality ---
- Added "Reload" menu item to the File menu. Select "Reload" from the
File menu or press Ctrl+Shift+R (or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac) to reload the
active ontology. If the ontology has been modified but not saved then a
warning is shown. (#152)

--- Other changes ---
- The Protege GitHub repository no longer contains jars for felix and
equinox. These are now pulled from Maven Central. (#157, #158 and #159)

Tania,

The desktop download link doesn't  work for me. The URL of the button:

is just http://protege.stanford.edu/products.php#. Is that correct?

Regards,

Steve Wartik

Hi Steve,

We are not sure what is going on on your machine. It is supposed to work. Try to reload the content of the page. Certain browsers on certain operating systems are not very good at picking up that the website has been updated and serve old content, so a reload (CTRL+R) is always a safe thing to do. Are you still experiencing the problem? If yes, please describe your configuration (OS, browser) and how you are trying to get to the Download button.

Re: Protege 5.0 beta build 17 is now available

Steve Wartik

Csongor,

I’m still having the problem. It occurs in Firefox, IE, and Chrome. My OS is Windows 7. I got to the page through the link Tania provided: http://protege.stanford.edu/products.php#desktop-protege. The download-for-desktop button links to http://protege.stanford.edu/products.php#. Is that what you expect?

I’ve tried reloading the page, clearing the cache, etc., to no avail. If I’m the only one having the problem – and, given the lack of concurring emails, I gather I am – then perhaps my company’s firewall is to blame.

Regards,

Re: Protege 5.0 beta build 17 is now available

Tania Tudorache
Hi Steven,

You can always get to direct links for the downloads by going to the URL that Csongor mentioned (you'll find a list of recent releases here, and this is where the download button would link):
http://protege.stanford.edu/download/protege/5.0/binaries/

Also, you may get the release from github (see at the end of the release notes):
https://github.com/protegeproject/protege/releases

The Download button on our webpage uses some javascript to figure out the client platform, so that it offers the appropriate file to download. If the javascript is disabled in your browser for any reason, the download button would probably not work.

Cheers,
Tania

Hi Steve,
I tested again in my virtual machine running Windows 7 (not 7.1) SP 1, in Chrome 40, FF 36, Opera 28 and IE 11, and the "Download for Windows" in all those browsers pointed to
http://protege.stanford.edu/download/protege/5.0/binaries/protege-5.0.0-beta-17-win.zip

What do you get if you right click on the "Download for Windows" button and select
'Copy link location' in FF, or
'Copy shortcut' in IE, or
'Copy link address' in Chrome?
